Jenna

I am really glad we had a guest speaker tonight. It helped me to better understand what it is like to be deaf-which of course I know I will never completely understand. But, nevertheless, Jenna being in our classroom tonight truly made deaf individuals communication and language more clear to me.

I am familiar with ASL and Cochlear implants but I have only been exposed to them (including people who are deaf) very rarely in my life. When I was in elementary and highschool I didn't have any classmates that were deaf. When I came to EKU, it was the first time I had really been around it at all. It was very beneficial to me.

So- Jenna, if you read this, thank you for coming!

I have to agree. Having Jenna came was the best ever. Being a Deaf and Hard of Hearing Major I really loved to watch Jenna and Mrs. White communicate in sign language. I left last nights class just ready to begin my major courses and begin in the world. This also allowed me to understand how to be able to communicate with my future students better and hearing what Jenna had to say about making sure they are comfortable allowed me to be aware in the future.

Thank you for the encouragement and the excitement that awaits me.

I'm a Deaf and Hard of Hearing major too! I liked last nights class and thought it was really cool to actually hear from someone who has had a cochlear implant. When I walk out of my ASL classes I always think it's really weird that people are talking and last night after class I felt the same way. I guess when I see people signing I get used to paying attention to that and I don't hear what's being said around me, so when I walk out of class it's really weird. My friends think it's weird though that I'll be talking to them and randomly start signing.

I am a Special Education: Learning and Behavior major. I am minoring in ASL. I am so glad you came to the class because hearing stories like yours is inspiration in my life. You helped answer alot of questions I had and I thank you for sharing your story. It was the best class I have been so far and I loved it.

I'm very glad to come and speak with you all and help give perhaps a better understanding of this unique world. If any of you or friends or family have questions or want an opinion any time you can always email me and we can meet up for a beer or coffee or whatever and talk it over!

I also agree that Jennea was great. I think it is awesome to see how successful she has been. I have so much respect for her, just from listening to the things she spoke about. I wish I knew sign language so I could communicate effectively with deaf people. I would also like to find the people she said made fun of her in school, and smack them around a little. They must have been jealous because she was smarter than them.

Experiences like these in the classroom is what makes the motivation fly. It teaches us we can make a difference by listening and trying our best to help that child out. It makes us realize as future teachers what needs to happen in order to help those children out that need the captioning on or braille textbook. No matter what it is we need to try to find a way to give that child an experience that they learn from.

Thanks Jenna for giving me one of those experiences that I will remember.

I wish I could have been there. I am a speech communication major and I would have loved Monday's class. I don't miss class often but when I do I always miss the good stuff.

I, too, am a Special Education: Learning and Behavior major. I am also minoring in ASL. This class was so interesting! I love when my classes seem to connect so that what I am learning in one class relates so well with what I am learning in another class. I really enjoyed having Jenna in class with us. Jenna, thanks for joining us and being so willing to talk with us!
