Push Me!
Last week after class...I'd just arrived in Lexington and was on Man-O-War Blvd. Someone was making a left hand turn on a green light and forgot to YIELD to oncoming traffic - ME. He hit me. End of the story - I spend the rest of the evening and part of the morning in the emergency room and my jeep is totaled. I had to cancel class on Wednesday. If my foot is not any better by Monday who is going to come to the parking lot and wheel me to the classroom????????????????????
Those Video's !! and did I really Pass!
So I was watching those video's and I got to thinking that when I was in school I NEVER learned this stuff. I seem weird that three years ago I was in high school and all that I can remember is how to sneek off the school campus. And I was a good student and now I am finding myself questioning if the hard work that I put forth was really me working hard or if my teacher just let me slide. I mean have you ever thought about it?

Question about the Language Analysis
Mrs. White I have been meaning to ask questions about the language analysis. Does the project have to be on a child who has a language delay? and can it be someone we are related to as long as it is not our own chil? I have a nephew who has some speech trouble.
Since we are talking about....
Since we are talking about language communication and how they can be delayed. Someone emailed me this video talking about Autism. I highly reccommend it. It will change your perspective on life.

Second Session
Hey Everybody! I have to agree with all of you that posted about the second class, I thought it was great too. I liked the fact that even though Mrs. White didn't bring her materials, the class still flowed very well. I thought the class discussion was great and that I left with more information than I had expected. Have a great rest-of-the-week.
Thanks Kerrie
Hey Kerrie, just wanted to say thank you for the info. If I find any of the material mind boggling I'll give you a holla!!!! Thanks again for your help!

This Day In History!
I always like hearing "This Day In History" on the news or on the radio, so I thought I'd share what I found out for today! On this day, in 1936 major league baseball inducted the first 5 memebers of the "Baseball Hall of Fame." Those guys were, Ty Cobb, Walter Johnson, Babe Ruth, Honus Wagner and Christy Mathewson.
Just thought I would share a fun fact! Hope every one has a great tuesday evening! :)

Creative Class
This class is so much fun and there are some really creative students. I can not wait to learn more cool stuff and see what other things you come up with to help us get the concept Mrs. White. Last night I was a little tired my terminally ill daughter has been fighting pneumonia for the past week so I get very little rest. I am usually not quite and I hope to rest up soon so my brain will start working full speed again. I look forward to the rest of the semester and learning everyone.
I'm a little late, but here I am!

2nd class!
i really enjoyed class tonight..it went by so fast and i found mrs.white's teaching methods really interesting....they really allowed me to understand the topic...anyone else agree or what? :]
AND i agree with the post below me...the story she told about the boy in the hall in louisville definitely allowed me to sit back and take a look at how i react to things. i was in awe when she told the story as it seems now a days that people are so quick to attack back and majoring in lbd i wont be able to do that.
im excited for classes to come! [and possible handouts next time? ;]]

New thinking!!
Tonight I had an aha moment, when Mrs. White told us the story of the boy in Louisville, in the hall, I really saw a new perspective. Generally, when we as humans encounter a situation like that we, without knowing, tend to react harshly. I am an LBD major and Mrs. White's story has really given me a new way to react to that type of situation, that I had never thought of before. So thanks Mrs. White! You have helped me to see an alternative way to deal with misbehavior.
Class tonight...
Was very interesting. Being an O.T. major I know that I will come into contact with children that have special needs and sitting in class tonight made me realize how I can help them learn as well. It was a very eye opening experience and I'm so glad to have gained it. That made me want to accomplish my dream, even more!

Kind of worried
I know that I should have been on here earlier and that I it would have been better to post to other blogs if I was a little bit quicker, but like other students I am busy and still trying to learn how to manage my time. I am still a freshman now:)! But I was just seeing how everyones weekend(S) now I should say was? I was also seeing if there was any way we could have ideas of how to take notes. I am a worry wart and I dont know how to get all the information into the right format to study for test. Like some students I do not do well on test and was wondering if there was anyway anybody knew how to organize or keep there notes just to get some ideas.....thanks tons. Cant wait for class tonight!

Hello everyone! My name is NancyJo Abney (unfortunately, that is actually my first name, and I have a middle name as well). Anyway, my major is LBD, and I can't wait to start working. I have been married for 5 years and have a 3 year old daughter, named Zoe. Besides school, I am a stay-at-home-mom, and do title work for out car lot. So, if you need a car or need something notarized, I can take care of you. I am a sales rep for Kelly's Kids, if you don't have kids you probably have never heard of Kelly's Kids, but it is a brand of kid's clothes. I am very forgetful, no matter how hard I try, something strange and unlucky happens to me, and I am always late, and I am that scatter-brained person that will search for their keys with them in hand! I am also really bad with names, but I won't forget your face. I wish everyone luck this semester, and can't wait to get to know everyone.

This weekend was my weekend to stay with my grandmother, and when I stay with her I get a chance to watch a lot of Hallmark movies on VHS lol. Anyway, we watched a movie called The Boys Next Door which is about 4 mentally handicapped men that live together, and it shows their triumphs and heartaches. If you ever catch this movie on the Hallmark channel ( as corny as that sounds lol) you have to watch it!! It's wonderful!! Hope everyone had a restful day off!! See ya Monday!

about me
Hey everybody! My name is Preston King, and I am a senior here at EKU. It has took me longer than I would have wanted to get my degree due mainly because of military deployments. My most recent was a one year deployment in Iraq about a year 1/2 ago. I have a three year old son named Cody who is the coolest kid in the world. He makes me laugh every single day. I love sports and plan to coach football as well as teach after receiving my degree. Welp, thats just a little about me.

Cell Phone - Most Embarrassing
Ok, Renee and Vandi have made me want to ask...where is the most embarrassing place your cell phone has ever rung?
First day
I didn't know what to expect when walking through the door Monday night, but after being there and learning the outline of what we are going to get to know I am excited about this class! Special Education has always been my passion, and Im excited to learn any and everything I can about how to teach my future classroom. I think that this class is going to teach me to be the most effective educator that I can!! :-) See U all next Monday! Everyone enjoy their day off!
I am not sure about all of this
Hello all,
I am Elizabeth Zajic and I am a Junior Special Ed. major! I just changed my major to this from Elementary Education but realized late in the game that it is just not for me. Well I am not to much of a BLOGGER but I think that this could be an interesting thing. That is all that I really have to say so ummm .. thanks for reading this!

well you won't be seeing me anymore
Yesterday I finally came to my decision to change my major back to what it was when I came here: Forensics. I have been battling with my decision to change back since I changed it in the first place. I came to Eastern for the forensics program and I have always had a passion for science. But, I think I changed it because I wanted to make my mother proud. My mother is a teacher's aid in an FMD room at my old high school. I guess I felt like since she couldn't be a teacher, I should. I've always had a passion for kids and I thought I wanted to work with kids. But with all of the (excuse me) b.s. in the school systems, I think I would get tired of the job. But I realized that making lesson plans and making sure every child is getting the core content is not for me. I mean I love kids, I want to have like 4 of them. But I just don't think that teaching them is what I am meant to do. As for the rest of you, I hope you all become great teachers and change children's lives. Sorry to have wasted your time, Mrs. White.
Thanks and good bye.

All About Me
Hi~ I'm Bethany Howell. I mostly go by Beth. I am not an Education major, but a Psychology major. Special Education is my minor and I plan to continue on to Graduate School to get a Master's in School Psychology. I love children and I feel that being a School Psychologist is the best way for me to aid and help children but stay in the field of Psychology.
I am really excited about this course and I believe it will be a lot of fun. I do not typically like night classes but I'm hopeful that this course will change my opinion of them. I have had several courses concerning language development and child development in general. I am eager to see what all this course has to offer.
See ya next Monday!

About Me
I'm Renee, the girl whose phone rang in the middle of class! I'm a DHH major w/ Elementary Education. I've lived in Louisville all my life and it was a big change to move to Richmond. I'm a twin, but have almost nothing in common with my twin brother. I worked at a daycare for two years before I moved down to Richmond and still work when I go back in town. I love working at the daycare often refer to them in stories as "my kids". I'm really excited for this class, and my special education major in general!
The First Class!!
I'm really excited about the class! When I first registered and saw that the course was three hours long, I was a bit worried, but the time flew by today and I really enjoyed the material. Through being an Army Brat and having a mom who is a special education teacher, I've always been surrounded with those who are different than myself and learned new things every day. Mrs. White definetly inspires me with her passion about teaching and I really hope I can be the teacher who helps students learn!
:]
See ya'll in a few weeks!

My First Day of Class
My major is Special Education, LBD. I really did not know until I was junior in high school that was my passion. Two influences in my life that helped contribute to that was my nephew, who is autistic, and the FMD Special Education teacher at the high school. He got me to go to a Special Olympics and it was great. After I get my Bachelors and Masters in LBD, I want to attend Louisville to get a degree in FMD. I am also thinking of minoring in ASL. When I stepped into class today, it felt so right. I work with two special needs children where I work and I absoulety love it. I could not think of anything else in the world to do as a career. I willing to work hard for what I enjoy.
ME!

Let's Get Started!
To get started with the blog you may wish to post an introduction of yourself here on the blog. You may already have some questions about the class, something in the syllabus, assignments, etc. This is an excellent place to post those. You could also post beginning thoughts about this course and what you anticipate you will be learning over the next 15 weeks. Feel free to respond to one another! I will be responding, too. Mrs. White
