My First Day of Class

My major is Special Education, LBD. I really did not know until I was junior in high school that was my passion. Two influences in my life that helped contribute to that was my nephew, who is autistic, and the FMD Special Education teacher at the high school. He got me to go to a Special Olympics and it was great. After I get my Bachelors and Masters in LBD, I want to attend Louisville to get a degree in FMD. I am also thinking of minoring in ASL. When I stepped into class today, it felt so right. I work with two special needs children where I work and I absoulety love it. I could not think of anything else in the world to do as a career. I willing to work hard for what I enjoy.

I LOVE to read posts like these!!! When we FEEL something in our bones...when we have a passion for what we do...that's when no matter how tough it is on some days, the joy of the other days make it all worth it. When we have people in our family who have special needs we see the absolute beauty, worth and ability they have. Of course they learn to do things differently. I learn differently but also learned that if I conform I make it "easier" for people around me. Some students simply don't have that ability to make it "easier" on adults. Thus we go to college to learn how to teach in ways that THEY LEARN BEST! If only ALL teaching were centered on how children learn best! So glad you're in the class and can share specific examples from your experiences.

I have many experiences to share. Some are sad but most are happy and great lessons that can be taught to others. I have learned from my nephew a great deal by the way people just look at him to the way he accepts it and he is only ten. It amazes me how much a child can go through.
