Tech. Center

I just wanted to comment on how much I enjoyed class Monday. It was a nice change to hold class somewhere other than the classroom, and I also learned a lot. I had no idea the place even existed and how much what they do helps people. The things they use are so interesting and objects I could make for students in my own class; for example the piece of foam to help hold a pencil. Thanks for introducing me to the center Mrs. White!!!!

I completely agree Vandi, I really enjoyed the experiance. I feel at an advantage now knowing about the tremendous resource we have at the Technology Center. I look forward to working with them in the future.

I have to tell you that Debbie bragged and bragged on all of you after you left. You KNOW I am very biased and think my classes are wonderful. You KNOW I have high expectations and KNOW you are going to make phenomenal teachers. But, when I hear someone else talk about how much THEY enjoyed working with you it's an extra special boost.

I do hope you all see the incredible talent you have. Yes, you're just learning and beginning. But, you have so much potential. I can't wait to see you all in your classrooms. I do hope you will stay in touch and let me come read to your kids!!!

I am sad that several of our class couldn't be there.

I am so glad I had a chance to get to go to the Technology Center because it is definetly becoming a resource of mine especially being a LBD major. I could have stayed there so long just playing and experimenting. Thank you Mrs. White for showing us a resource that will come in handy as we teach. It makes me feel better as a person to know that there are resources out there I can borrow from and try out. This experience was great and I hope to have several more like this.

I loved the experience also. I had no idea there was such a place. The work done there is wonderful. There are tons of special needs children who have not reached their full potential because everyone has low expectations for them. I look forward to volunteering there in the future as I continue my speech degree.

Wow! What a great idea. It would be wonderful for anyone who can to volunteer some time at the center. This is great, Bridget!

I have to agree I loved the trip. I live just in nicholasville and had no idea that this helpfull place was there. I also hope to volunteer my time if needed there, with being so close I would love to help out with something that could help me as a future teacher or even help my future students.

Don't forget - they need folks to help them make the talking books in Power Point. They have specific step by step directions on HOW to do it.

Even if this summer you had one afternoon and wanted to do this, it would be great.

Just call the Bluegrass Technology Center and explain what you would like to do.

I'm sure they have other tasks as well.

mrs. white, do you think we could just volunteer up there every now and during the summer? i won't be in town all summer, but i'd love to get to go and experience what everyone else did while also helping out in whatever way possible.

The speech room was great. I loved all of the picture and voice technology. The other stuff that amazed me was the simple solutions that can make a difference, like the toilet paper roll and the non-slip shelf liner. Who would have ever thought about using some of that stuff as stabilizers, especially card board toilet paper rolls. Thats one thing the child craft books never taught me to use them for. (I grew up without internet)

Yes, Kerrie. I do. They would LOVE to have you come volunteer for a few hours ANY TIME you are available. They key would be to call in advance, schedule it with them. You can let them know that your EKU class with Cathy (Brandt) White visited there and you are interested in volunteering. They may have a one time project at just the time you're available whereby your help could make a significant difference. You never know! However, I'm sure they would welcome you ANY time.

I also thought that this was a great experience. I was not even aware that there was a place like this.
