Hey Everyone,
I have a family emergency and I will be unable to attend class tonight. If it's not too much trouble- will someone please let me know what we cover in class tonight? I would really appreciated it. I've already printed off the powerpoints, but if there are any key facts or topics of stressed importance please let me know!
Thanks Again~

Last night we spent time reviewing phonemes, morphemes, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics. She gave us the handouts that she didn't have the week before. After that we watched videos of young children and discussed the difference between cognition (we said it was thinking, processing, using the mind) and language. We discussed the beliefs in the book, rather language or cognition comes first or if they work independently of each other.
We talked about distancing (which is knowing something without it being right in front of you.) The example we had was in a video of a young girl pretending to be a vetrinarian. She was pretending there were bugs in the stuffed dogs ear (she knew dogs could have bugs in their ears) but there weren't really bugs in the dog's ears.
Then we talked about object permanence which is the whole idea behind peek-a-boo. It's when a child finally realizes that something (such as his/her mother) still exist and will come back even when the child is not directly looking at that object.
Then we discussed the four models of language acquisition. There are really good notes for that on blackboard.
At the end of class we were working in groups of definitions to explain how speech works. We were supposed to be making a definition that would explain the process of speech to parents whose child maybe had problems with speech.
That's really all I can remember from last night. I'm sure there was more that I've forgotten but I hope what I gave you at least helps a little bit.
Renee
